Newsline guidelines

Newsline is Memorial's internal communications tool for employees.

It is used to communicate Memorial-led initiatives and information, significant maintenance announcements (i.e. network outages, asbestos abatement work), closure information and other general updates that may impact faculty and staff.

Audience

Your Newsline items will be sent to:

  • Employees (faculty and staff) – all campuses
  • Pensioners

Sending frequency

Newsline messages are sent twice a week (Tuesdays and Fridays).

Single-item or standalone Newsline messages are also sent on a limited basis for critical updates to the university community.

There is also a seperate event listings newsline issued on Thursdays to employees of the St. John’s campus.

Content Guidelines

  • Relevance: All content shared in Newsline must be relevant to all employees.
  • Employees only: Messages directed to students will not be included as Newsline is only sent to staff and faculty. Information that is only pertinent to certain campuses should be sent directly to those campuses.
  • Clarity and conciseness: Use clear and concise language, keeping messages brief (50 words or less). If you do not edit your submission down to 50 words, with links to further information, MarComm will edit it down to meet this standard.
  • Timeliness: Ensure all information is up-to-date. Include only the most current and relevant details.

Submission Guidelines

  • Submission Process: All content submissions must be sent to mandyc@mun.ca by 5 p.m. the day before publication. MarComm cannot guarantee publication if received past the deadline.
  • Approval: Submissions will be reviewed and approved by the communications team to ensure they meet content guidelines above.
  • Frequency: Typically, Newsline will only run an announcement once. Repetitive announcements should be limited to avoid redundancy. MarComm reserves the right to limit repetitive content.
