SUBJECT: Memorial's business faculty to hand out awards to business, student leaders at Partners

Business leaders Ken Bennett and Lisa Browne will be will be honoured by Memorial University’s Faculty of Business Administration at its 34th annual Partners Celebration tonight at Memorial’s Emera Innovation Exchange, Signal Hill Campus.

Mr. Bennett, (B.Comm.(Co-op.)(Hons.)’86, will receive the 2019 Alumni Honour Award. Ms. Browne, (BA’91, MBA’93), will take home the P.J. Gardiner 2019 Newfoundland and Labrador Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

Mr. Bennett is president of Johnson Inc., a position he was appointed to in 2007 after more than 20 years in the Canadian insurance industry. Under his leadership, Johnson has grown substantially to become a leading Canadian insurance and benefits company. In recent years, Mr. Bennett has led a large-scale transformation of the business and implemented a robust, country-wide growth and acquisition strategy.

Ms. Browne is chief executive officer of Stella’s Circle, a community-focused organization offering housing, counselling and employment programs to adults who face barriers to fully participating in the community. As a social entrepreneur who’s helping to build the province’s labour market, Ms. Browne personifies the P.J. Gardiner award attributes of embodying an entrepreneurial spirit and being a role model for youth.

For the first time this year, two student awards will also be given out.

Emma Coady (B.Comm.(Co-op.)’19) is the winner of the 2019 Dr. Robert Crosbie Undergraduate Student Citizenship Award and Kishan Gurung (MBA'19) will take home the 2019 Dr. Victor Young Graduate Student Citizenship Award.

Partners will start with a networking reception at 5 p.m. with the awards presentation beginning at 6 p.m. Members of the media are invited to attend. Free parking is available in the lower and middle lots of Signal Hill Campus.

Partners is the business faculty’s annual celebration that brings together members of the faculty with students, donors, alumni and the business community to pay tribute to those who have achieved excellence in business while using their skills and expertise to contribute to their peers and communities.
