SUBJECT: Core Science Facility top-out ceremony

Dr. Gary Kachanoski, president and vice-chancellor, Memorial University, is hosting a top-out ceremony in recognition of the placement of the last piece of structural steel for the Core Science Facility building project.
The final piece of structural steel will be signed by partners and will then be hoisted into place, thereby signifying the completion of the installation of 6,500 tons of structural steel in the Core Science Facility.
The ceremony is taking place on April 17 at 10:30 a.m. Participating partners include the Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador; the Government of Canada; Rod Ackerman, Marco Group; and Jeff Churchill, HOK.

To cover this momentous event, media are invited to gather at the first floor main entrance to the parking garage at the corner of Clinch Crescent and Arctic Avenue by 10:15 a.m. Media will then be accompanied to the ceremony location. Steel toe boots are required (not provided), and all other personal protective equipment is available onsite, including hard hats, safety glasses and vests.
In the interest of safety, only signing participants and media representatives will be permitted on site at the top-out ceremony. Other observers can view the signing from The Landing on the third floor of the University Centre (UC-3018).
Immediately following the signing ceremony, remarks and a reception will take place in The Landing (UC-3018). Please join Memorial in recognizing this construction milestone with partners and highlight the vital infrastructure project that is Memorial's Core Science Facility.
