SUBJECT: SHAD Valley program seeking exceptional students for 2015

The Shad Valley program (SHAD) is accepting applications from high school students in Grades 10-12 until Thursday, Dec. 11.
The renowned enrichment program, which attracts exceptional, highly creative students from across the country, will take place at Memorial and 11 other host campuses over a four-week period in summer 2015.
While SHAD has a 30-year history of enriching the lives of exceptional Canadian youth, this year it is especially important to encourage Newfoundland and Labrador students to apply: Memorial University will award scholarships to fully fund the SHAD experience, including airfare, for up to 50 of this province's top students.
There is no application process for a scholarship. Students in Newfoundland and Labrador who apply and are accepted to the summer program are automatically considered.
“SHAD encourages all students in high school with an overall high academic average to apply to the program,” said Dr. Leonard Lye, program director, SHAD Memorial University. “Typical applicants have a passion for math and the sciences, a flair for the creative and an entrepreneurial mindset, along with a desire to change the world for the better. There is still time for students to submit their applications to take advantage of this incredible opportunity.”
Students who complete the SHAD program become part of the SHAD alumni network, a valuable networking resource for students as they progress throughout their academic and professional careers.
Memorial University also has a unique post-secondary education scholarship program for SHAD alumni. The competitive entrance scholarship program provides four outstanding individuals with scholarships of $12,000 each to enter the area of study of their choice at Memorial.
This opportunity was made possible by a $2.85-million investment from the Hibernia Management and Development Company Ltd. (HMDC). The funding was created by the Hibernia Project-SHAD Valley Fund at Memorial to encourage high school students to pursue studies in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The program will also encourage students from across the country to pursue their post-secondary studies at Memorial.
