SUBJECT: PSA: What the First World War Taught Us: A lecture by Gwynne Dyer

Alumnus, author, historian and independent journalist Dr. Gwynne Dyer will discuss What the First World War Taught Us on Friday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m. in the Bruneau Centre for Research and Innovation, room IIC-2001, on Memorial University’s St. John’s campus.
Dr. Dyer has worked as a freelance journalist, columnist, broadcaster and lecturer on international affairs for more than 20 years, but was originally trained as an historian. Born in Newfoundland and Labrador, he received degrees from Canadian, American and British universities, finishing with a PhD in military and Middle Eastern history from the University of London.
He served in three navies and held academic appointments at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and Oxford University before launching his twice-weekly column on international affairs, which is published by more than 175 papers in 45 countries. In the spring of 2012, Dr. Dyer was made an officer of the Order of Canada. His new book, Canada in the Great Power Game, has just been released by Doubleday Canada.
This event is presented by the Faculty of Arts in partnership with the First World War Commemorations Committee. All are welcome and parking is available in lot 15B.
