SUBJECT: PSA: In-library performance of award-winning composer and School of Music faculty member Andrew Staniland
DATE: January 24, 2014
The Queen Elizabeth II Library at Memorial University will host a live performance of award-winning composer Andrew Stanilands Calamus 6 a composition inspired by Walt Whitmans infamous poem Calamus, from Leaves of Grass. Dr. Staniland will also provide an introduction to the piece.
The performance is part of the librarys Check it Out: Celebrating Culture series and will feature School of Music faculty members Jane Leibel, soprano, and Vernon Regehr, cello.
After the performance, there will be a lively discussion on Whitmans poetry led by Dr. Mark Cumming of the Department of English. Librarian Becky Smith will highlight other inspired compositions held by the School of Musics Music Resources Centre.
The event will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 29, from 1-2 p.m. on the third floor of the QEIl Library.
