What Matters to Student Success: The Promise of High-Impact Practices will be presented by Dr. George D. Kuh, adjunct professor, University of Illinois, chancellor professor emeritus, Indiana University, and director, National Institute for Learning Outcomes Assessment, on Thursday, May 30, at 1 p.m.   The lecture will take place in IIC-2001, Bruneau Centre for Research and Innovation.

Dr. Kuh is the scholar-in-residence for the International Experiential Leadership Institute, taking place at Memorial University from May 29-31.

Creating the conditions that foster success in post-secondary education is more important than ever, says Dr. Kuh. Much progress has been made during the past two decades in using active, collaborative and problem-based learning, learning communities, theme-based residences, service learning and other experientially-based programs and practices that enrich student learning and promote educational attainment. Despite all this activity, too often these and other effective educational practices are underutilized. 

Dr. Kuh will review what matters to student success, examine some key indicators of quality such as student engagement, and illustrate the kinds of policies and high impact practices that channel student and institutional effort towards educationally purposeful activities that often boost the performance of historically underrepresented students and the less well-prepared.
