The Marine Institute will host, for the first time in Canada, the International Association of Maritime Universities’ (IAMU) annual conference taking place at the Delta Hotel, St. John’s, from Oct. 15-17.

This year’s theme is Expanding Frontiers – Challenges and Opportunities in Maritime Education and Training.

The conference will explore topics such as be situational awareness, recruitment and retention of seafarers, distance education and technology, participation of women in the marine industry and the new Standards for Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers.

Founded in 1999 by seven universities from around the world, IAMU has become an international network among maritime universities and faculties. This conference will unite students, members from all countries and universities worldwide.

The event is open to both IAMU members and non-members. Members of the media are welcome to attend.
