SUBJECT: This weekend is full of MUNdays

I Love MUNdays celebrations continue today and into the weekend on Memorial’s St. John’s campus.
On Saturday, Oct. 22, there will be a number of initiatives taking place during this year’s Community Service Learning Day. Participants will plant seedlings at Pippy Park, nurture garden beds at the Community Food Garden and reach out to the St. John’s community at the Street Reach Community Lunch. Note: this is not a public event; participants must register at www.mun.ca/mundays.
In the evening, Memorial will host four local award-winning writers at Petro-Canada Hall, School of Music, at 7 p.m. for Writers in the Round. Kevin Major, Andy Jones, Jessica Grant and Perry Chafe will participate in a panel discussion moderated by Amy House. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free but tickets must be picked up in advance at Answers, University Centre 3005, or the Office of Alumni Affairs and Development (office hours 9-5 p.m.), telephone 864-4354. Parking will be available in lot 15B.
Sunday, Oct. 23, get your heart pumping at the historic run/walk at 8 a.m. The MUN Run 5km will begin at the site of the original Memorial University
College on Parade Street and retrace the route marched by students to the current campus on Elizabeth Avenue back in 1961, fifty years ago. Register online at www.mun.ca/mundays.
In the afternoon, a MUNdays event favourite takes place: the Barnes House Charity Truck Pull. The massive feat of strength happens at 2 p.m. in lot 16. The truck pull raises money and awareness for Iris Kirby House.
Monday, Oct. 24, is coined appropriately enough as MUNday. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to wear their pride by wearing MUN-branded clothing. The University Bookstore is offering a 20 per cent discount all day on any MUN-branded clothing.
Monday is also International Bazaar day, which boasts a fantastic celebration of Memorial’s diversity – complete with delicious international cuisine, music, dancing and crafts. The event takes place from 12-3 p.m. in the University Centre.
And today, Friday, Oct. 21, Kindness Friday continues. Students, faculty and staff will demonstrate their own acts of kindness, as well as bring in non-perishable food items to Hatcher House to help Memorial Fill the Square at Paton College. All food will be donated to the Campus Food Bank and the Community Food Sharing Association.
This evening, rock out at the Memorial University students’ union (MUNSU) Graduation Concert at 8 p.m. The lineup includes Mark Bragg and the Butchers and Andrew James O’Brien and the Searchers.
MUNdays highlights the diversity, ingenuity, excellence, kindness and community spirit that distinguish Memorial as one of the best post-secondary institutions in the world.
A full slate of events and activities are planned, encouraging students, staff, faculty and alumni to come together, celebrate Memorial and have an unforgettable time.
