SUBJECT: Memorial University power outage update
DATE: March 2, 2012
Attempts to restore power to the Memorial University residence complex on the St. Johns campus were unsuccessful. The affected cable failed again during a phased re-establishment of power to the line today, Friday, March 2. The problem now requires total replacement of the cable which may take 2-3 days.
Contingency plans
Paton College: An emergency generator will provide power to the buildings in Paton College on a rotating basis. Students housed there will remain in their residence buildings.
Burtons Pond Apartments: Students in Burtons Pond Apartments are being relocated to accommodations in temporary dormitories being set up in the university Field House and gymnasium.
Baltimore Court: Students and their families living in the family residence of Baltimore Court are being relocated to Hillview Terrace Apartments on Torbay Road.
Food service: Arrangements are also being made to provide food service to students affected by the power outage.
Numbers of students affected by temporary relocation: 500
