SUBJECT: Marine Institute to host media tour of environmental theatre and helicopter underwater escape trainer

The Fisheries and Marine Institute (MI) will showcase its new environmental theatre and helicopter underwater escape trainer at its Offshore Safety and Survival Centre (OSSC) in Foxtrap on Wednesday, Feb. 29, at 10 a.m.
Glenn Blackwood, vice-president of Memorial University (Marine Institute), and Robert Rutherford, director, OSSC, will provide members of the media with a tour and demonstration of new training capabilities including an environmental pool with wave, wind rain and sound control and a high fidelity helicopter underwater escape trainer (HUET).
To reach the facility, follow the Trans-Canada Highway to Route 61 (Foxtrap turnoff). Turn right onto Route 61 and follow for approximately 1.8 kilometres. Turn left onto Incinerator Road and then turn right, before the unpaved road. Follow road for 2.5 kilometres. The OSSC is at the end of this road.
The OSSC delivers a comprehensive range of safety, survival and emergency response training to the offshore petroleum, marine transportation, fishing and land-based industries. It works closely with industry, researchers and industry associations to improve safety technologies and practices and can design and customize courses to meet specific training needs of its clients.
