These days, Newfoundland and Labrador is booming, but with declining oil production, what are the fiscal realities facing the province? Are we missing an opportunity to reduce our debt and create a sustainable prosperity for future generations? 

According to well-known Memorial University economist Dr. Wade Locke, these questions need to be discussed openly and honestly. He’ll share his thoughts at a Memorial Presents public forum titled A Prosperity Plan for Newfoundland and Labrador, on Wednesday, June 8, from 7:30-9:30 p.m., at Innovation Hall in the Angus Bruneau Centre (formerly the Inco Innovation Centre) at Memorial University.

• Bruce Pearce, community development coordinator with the St. John\'s Community Advisory Committee on Homelessness

• Jo Mark Zurel, chair of the St. John\'s Board of Trade

Audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions and respond to the panel discussion.

 

The event will be webcast live from the Harris Centre website at www.mun.ca/harriscentre to ensure that people across the province have the opportunity to engage in the debate. Viewers will also be able to submit questions to the speakers by email.

“It is important to appreciate what real choices we face, and plan for these possibilities. While we should hope for continued prosperity, we should plan for what is likely and adjust our priorities accordingly,” said Dr. Locke. “The priorities Newfoundland and Labrador wishes to establish have to be grounded in reality. It is the base from which all policies need to emanate."
