2010-2011
News Release
REF NO.: 196
SUBJECT: Memorial University to host homeshare workshop
DATE: May 9, 2011
Note to editors:
Homesharing is the term used to describe the arrangement when a senior homeowner rents a room to a post-secondary student. Homesharing is an innovative idea that serves two purposes: it helps seniors age in place and it provides post-secondary students with both an inter-generational experience and reduced rental costs.
Homesharing has never been implemented in this province, but a dedicated group comprised of members of government and the non-profit sector is working hard to make homesharing a reality in St. Johns.
For those wishing to learn more about homesharing, Memorial University will hold a workshop Monday, May 16, from 1-4 p.m., to share more about how it works, who benefits and how the Memorial University community might contribute towards working on a pilot project in this city. Staff and faculty from all disciplines are welcome.
The meeting will be held in the Junior Common Room, R. Gushue Hall, Irwins Road, St. Johns campus.
Refreshments will be served. Sponsored by Student Affairs and Services and The Harris Centre. Please RSVP to akelly@mun.ca.
