2010-2011
News Release
REF NO.: 52
SUBJECT: Kindness marathon as Memorials fall celebrations continue on both coasts
DATE: October 29, 2010
Expect friends and colleagues to shower each other with kindness on Memorials campuses today, Day 4 of MUNdays, the universitys yearly fall celebrations.
Its all part of a distinctly Memorial initiative: be extra kind to all the members of our university community in order to foster a culture of caring.
Have a heart and take part in Kindness Friday. Tell someone theyre a great co-worker, share some homemade cookies, make someone laugh or just hold open a door. This year, there will be a university-wide initiative to help newly arrived Canadians dress for success by donating gently used professional clothing to Stuff-A-Bus. Drop off gently used clothing between 8-10 a.m. in front of R. Gushue Hall to fill a Metrobus! The bus will then travel to the Marine Institute for a 10 a.m. pickup. All donations will benefit the Association for New Canadians. There will also be a huge selection of ways of making Friday kind. Visit www.mun.ca/mundays/kindness.
You can also be kind to the environment all day at Idle Free. Be part of the green movement and let drivers know that idling their car pollutes the air.
The evening brings the spookiest party of the year at not one, not two, but three Halloween Bashes at The Breezeway (5-8 p.m.), the Marine Institute Student Union Lounge (6:30-9:30 p.m.) and Bitters Pub (8-11 p.m.), respectively. Dress up and transform into a whole new you for a night.
Grenfell Kindness
At Grenfell Campus, get spooked at SIFE Memorials Haunted House from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at the GCSU Food Court.
And from 1-2:30 p.m., enjoy the traditions of our province in an Introduction to Rug Hooking in the Fine Arts Atrium, featuring live music and traditional treats.
From 1-4 p.m., students, faculty and staff showcase their music skills at the Rock Band Social Battle of the Bands at The Backlot. Costumes and rocking out is encouraged. The Backlot party continues with a Zombie Disco and DJ duo Filthy Dough at 8:30 p.m. Best costumes win cash!
