SUBJECT: The Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University to hold graduation

The Fisheries and Marine Institute (MI) of Memorial University of Newfoundland’s 2010 graduation ceremonies will take place at the Marine Institute on June 18, 2010 at 2 p.m. The media are invited to attend.
This year’s ceremonies will feature guest speakers including Clyde Jackman, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador; Dr. Christopher Loomis, president and vice-chancellor pro tempore, Memorial University; Glenn Blackwood, executive director, Marine Institute; and a student address by Matthew Cooper.
Approximately 210 diplomas, certificates and advanced diplomas will be awarded in the following disciplines: sustainable aquaculture, integrated coastal and ocean management, food safety, water quality, marine diesel mechanic, bridge watch, offshore structural steel/plate fitter, marine engineering, marine environmental, marine engineering systems design, nautical science, food technology and naval architecture.
Graduates of the bachelor of technology and bachelor of maritime studies received their degrees at Memorial University’s convocation on May 27th.
The graduation ceremony will be broadcast on Rogers Television on Thursday, July 1 at 10 p.m. in Corner Brook and on Sunday, July 4 at 5 p.m. in St. John’s. A live webcast of the graduation will also be available at www.mi.mun.ca/graduation and can be viewed on a continuous basis after the ceremony has ended.
The Marine Institute will hold a reception following the graduation ceremony.
