SUBJECT: PSA: Free public lecture in Hampton Hall

The Marine Institute is hosting a free public lecture in Hampton Hall, Monday, Sept. 14, at 5 p.m. The featured speakers include Dr. George Rose, professor of fisheries conservation at the Marine Institute, and Capt. Mark Schrader, captain of the Ocean Watch, a 64-foot sailboat that is travelling around North and South America as part of the Around the Americas project, an ocean environment initiative that aims to build awareness about ocean health on an international scale.
The Ocean Watch crew is using the trip to engage and educate people in North and South America about ocean-health issues, using science-driven education materials and activities. They arrive in St. John’s on Friday, Sept. 11, and depart on Tuesday, Sept. 15. The Marine Institute is the Ocean Watch’s port host while it is in St. John’s.
Capt. Schrader is a world-renowned sailor who has sailed around the world on three different occasions.
