SUBJECT: Memorial nursing students join Pink Pen campaign to raise funds for breast cancer research

DATE: September 19, 2008

Nursing students at Memorial University are part of a national Pink Pen campaign to raise awareness of breast cancer and raise funds to support breast cancer research, education and awareness programs. On Monday Sept. 22 at 12:30 p.m., a special banner will be unveiled at the School of Nursing to launch this campaign. Nursing student Ashley Richardson is heading up the efforts at Memorial.
The Write for Hope banner is supplied by Paper Mate. The company is partnering with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and the Canadian Nursing Students Association (CNSA). During September and October, a Paper Mate FlexGrip Elite pink pen and a bookmark with information from the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation will be given to over 20,000 students across Canada who are members of the CNSA.
The Paper Mate FlexGrip Elite pens are available anywhere that pens are sold, and proceeds from sale of the pink pens will be contributed to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
Students can use the Paper Mate pens to sign the Write for Hope banner and write messages of hope. The goal is to collect 10,000 student signatures and inspiring messages. Paper Mate will make a contribution for each signature collected, and has committed an additional $10,000 for the Write for Hope campaign to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation in addition to their annual contribution of $50,000.
