SUBJECT: Memorial gears up to honour volunteers

The volunteer efforts of student groups, staff and faculty at Memorial University will be publicly recognized next month during the 23rd annual MUN Volunteer Day ceremony in St. John’s.
But before the awards are handed out, organizers are on the hunt for worthy finalists.
Nominations are currently being accepted for the awards, organized by the Student Volunteer Bureau (SVB).
Both campus groups as well as voluntary organizations in the wider community can nominate members of the Memorial community.
That recognition goes a long way in helping highlight the efforts of students and employees, said Zaren White, co-ordinator of the SVB.
“MUN Volunteer Day is a tremendous opportunity for Memorial University to formally recognize the individuals – student, staff and faculty – as well as organizations that have had a positive impact on the university community as well as the community at large through volunteerism,” she said.
This year, awards will be presented to an outstanding club/society; volunteer staff and faculty of the year; volunteer residence; and the student volunteer of the year.
Meanwhile, the David Kirkland Student Leadership Award and the Glenn Roy Blundon Award for excellence in disability accommodations will also be awarded.
Nominations are due by 4 p.m., Friday, Feb. 27. Late nominations may not be accepted.

Nomination packages must be submitted to the Student Volunteer Bureau, located on the fourth floor of the University Centre, room UC-4001. Office hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
