SUBJECT: Grenfell: Peel Academy visits Grenfell for seventh year

DATE: July 23, 2009

Participants in the Peel Summer Academy have spent an invigorating and intellectually stimulating two weeks at Grenfell College.
Peel Summer Academy is a two-week summer residential program for intellectually gifted youth, which provides them with an ideal blend of activities to address their unique intellectual, social and emotional needs. Since 1984, it has provided stimulation, fun and social growth to thousands of bright young people.
The Sir Wilfred Grenfell Program in Corner Brook/Gros Morne is the high point of Peel Summer Academy for many students. It provides students with a wonderful opportunity to visit Newfoundland, to experience the special hospitality of our hosts at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College in Corner Brook, and to travel up the west coast to one of Newfoundland's special treasures, Gros Morne National Park. As a bonus, the leadership program provides valuable personal development, particularly for those who might want to become counsellors at the academy in future years.
This summer marks the seventh year of offering Peel Summer Academy programs through the Division of Community Education & College Relations, Sir Wilfred Grenfell College.
"Grenfell’s Peel Summer Academy program offers fresh, engaging experiences where students develop skills or discover new ones through lectures, cultural excursions, hands-on, practical experiences and out-of-the-ordinary entertainment," said Marilyn Forward, program developer at Community Education. "Surrounded by the wonder and beauty of western Newfoundland’s diverse landscape, Grenfell’s Peel program stimulates senses, encourages creativity and satisfies a quest for 'something different'."
