SUBJECT: Grenfell: Grenfell alumnus releases post-apocalyptic satire

The end of the world will be grim, dangerous, and incredibly cute. "Voles of the Dusk" is a new graphic novel from Newfoundland-born cartoonist Joseph Hewitt, who graduated from Grenfell College in 1997 with a BA in English. It tells the story of a post-apocalyptic future in which the the human race is extinct and rodents reign supreme. Joe started this project to help raise money for his family so they can come to Korea and visit his newborn son.
When Joe left home in 1998, he didn't expect to be gone for quite this long. His original plan was to travel in Asia for a few years before returning to Canada. Instead, he discovered that he enjoyed teaching English and settled down in Korea. Last year Joe and his wife were pleased to welcome the birth of their first child, Sean Hewitt.
As a new father, Joe decided that it was high time to start putting his talents to good use. Prior to leaving Canada he had been an amateur cartoonist. His illustrations have appeared in comic anthologies, textbooks and magazines. A few years ago Joe started cartooning again, this time on the web. He decided to release a book of his best stories and use the proceeds to help his family come to Korea to visit his new son.
Voles of the Dusk is a satire of politics, manliness, and willful ignorance. The Vole with No Name lives by himself in the nuclear wasteland where he's free to indulge all of his survivalist fantasies. NoName is a thief, a scoundrel, and sometimes a philosopher. When Zoo Village requests help to defeat a feral cat he can't pass up the chance for some easy money. Unfortunately for him, things don't go as expected.
The book is currently available from Joe's website (ataraxiatheatre.com) and Amazon.com. He is currently looking for a distributor to help get it into stores. It is 84 pages long and is suggested for mature readers.
