News Release
REF NO.: 61
SUBJECT: United weigh: Memorial University partners with the Telegram to help local charities
DATE: November 15, 2007
Staff, faculty and students from various units on Memorial University’s St. John’s campus stepped up to the plate to help a great cause this fall.
The purpose of the effort was twofold: university advancement offices were encouraged to collect donations for the Campus Food Bank during Kindness Friday – which takes place each year during the university’s annual MUNdays celebrations in October – and a sponsor would match the weight of the food dollar-per-kilogram in aid of United Way Avalon.
The Telegram jumped on board right away.
Employees from Memorial’s Division of Marketing and Communications, the Department of Human Resources, the Office of Alumni Affairs and Development, and the Office of Student Recruitment collected 542 pounds of food or 247 kilograms.
The Telegram matched that amount and donated $247 to United Way of Avalon.
