SUBJECT: The Fisheries and Marine Institute to Sponsor New Regatta Shell

The Royal St. John’s Regatta Committee will host a reception to
announce the Marine Institute’s sponsorship of a new regatta shell at 12 p.m. on June 6, 2008, at the Quidi Vidi Boathouse and Dock. The shell will be officially dedicated and named The Marine Institute. Media are invited to attend.
For the past two years, Canadian Navy students at the Marine Institute have teamed up to row in the Royal St. John’s Regatta. Each year they had an impressive showing, taking silver in both of their races.
A team of rowers will take the shell away from the dock for its first inaugural row.
Acting St. John’s Mayor Shannie Duff, Charles R. Cook, president of the Royal St. John’s Regatta Committee and Glenn Blackwood, executive director of the Marine Institute will be on hand to address the reception.
