The Leslie Harris Centre of Regional Policy and Development will be holding a news conference to announce plans for the development of a regional inventory database along with a project that will identify research needs in each of the nine regional council areas of the Rural Secretariat, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, on Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006, at 11 a.m. in the Junior Common Room, R. Gushue Hall, off Irwin’s Road. University officials together with officials from the federal and provincial governments will be on hand for the announcement. Both projects will enhance collaboration between Memorial University and communities, including making Memorial’s activities more accessible to community users.
Media agencies are encouraged to send representatives. Parking available in front of R. Gushue Hall or in Lot 15. Reception to follow.
The Leslie Harris Centre of Regional Policy and Development is named in honour of Memorial University scholar and former president, Dr. Leslie Harris. Dr. Harris exemplifies the contribution of Memorial University to regional policy and development in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The Harris Centre is tasked with coordinating and facilitating the university’s educational, research and outreach activities in the areas of regional policy and development. It works with all faculties and departments within the university and serves as a reliable point of access for all stakeholders seeking to work with the University in activities related to regional policy and development.
