SUBJECT: Memorial University Alumni Association offers innovative way to donate
DATE: February 2, 2007
The Memorial University Alumni Association is pleased to announce it has teamed up with the online shopping site RebateaCause to offer alumni and friends of Memorial a new way to support student scholarships.
Memorial now has its own customized online shopping mall where supporters can shop for goods and raise money for student scholarships at the same time. More than 450 merchants on the site offer rebates up to 15 per cent of the purchase price of an item. Supporters pay the same price they would elsewhere and student scholarship funds will receive 100 per cent of the rebate. Simply go to the site (www.munalum.ca/service/rac.php) and click on the internal links to start your shopping experience.
“There is tremendous potential for helping current students with this online shopping site,” says Darcy McMeekin, Office of Alumni Affairs and Development. “Offering supporters an opportunity to donate through their everyday spending is an complementary approach to our ongoing fundraising efforts. We enlist the help of affinity partners to enhance our offerings of scholarships to students.”
“We are thrilled to be associated with Memorial,” says Jim McHugh, CEO of RebateaCause. “I know the challenges facing universities. Our goal is to help the university to maximize their fundraising efforts through the existing spending of their supporters. More people shop online and now Memorial supporters can help generate funds for scholarships at no additional cost.”
“This as an opportunity for people to put their everyday spending to work in supporting students at our university,” adds McMeekin.
Merchants include Chapters Indigo, Canadian Tire, eBay, Land’s End, The Source by Circuit City, Sephora, WestJet, Eddie Bauer, Dell, Apple and many more.
