SUBJECT: Grenfell - High school grads get a second chance through Summer Bridging Program

Sir Wilfred Grenfell College's Summer Bridging Program gives high school students a second chance.
The program is targeted at students who successfully completed the required high school courses and achieved more than a 65 per cent average, but less then the required 70 per cent.
Included in the two-week program are five major components focusing on literacy and numeracy skills, student life, library skills and study skills training. Also included in the program are a variety of organized social activities. The hope is that students will acquire these skills and then apply them to university life.
"Students, who complete the Summer Bridging Program, continually express satisfaction with the program," said Lorna Payne, co-ordinator of the program. "It gives them a taste of what they can expect from university life."
Now in its 10th year, the program will be offered August 13 - 24.
Applications must be supported by a letter outlining the students'
educations goals.
"I think students who make a commitment and have a positive mindset toward the program seem to experience more success in university," said Ms. Payne.
