SUBJECT: Global warming messenger trained by Al Gore to speak at Memorial University

A live presentation of the slideshow given by Al Gore in the Oscar-winning movie An Inconvenient Truth is coming to St. John’s on March 28.
Peter Corbyn, a New Brunswick resident, recently completed a rigorous training program led by the former U.S. Vice-President to spread the message about the threat of and solutions to global warming.
“Peter Corbyn is an outstanding example of the millions of Canadians who have been energized by the call to action on the climate crisis,” Mr. Gore said. “We are so pleased that he has made a serious commitment to this challenge by coming to Nashville to become part of this unprecedented grassroots effort.”
Mr. Corbyn will give a public presentation at Memorial at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28. The presentation takes place in the lecture theatre room IIC-2001 of the Inco Innovation Centre and is hosted by the university’s Sustainability Office. In his presentation, An Inconvenient Truth: The Planetary Emergency of Global Warming and What We Can Do About It, Mr. Corbyn will discuss how individuals, businesses, schools and other organizations can be a major part of the solution to the growing crisis of global warming. He will also talk about the impact of climate change on Canada. The event is open to the public and there is no admission charge. Parking is available in Area 15.
Earlier that same day, Mr. Corbyn will be the featured speaker at a luncheon presented by the Building Owners and Managers Association Atlantic – Newfoundland Chapter, in conjunction with the Department of Environment and Conservation, the City of St. John’s and the Newfoundland and Labrador Environmental Industry Association.
Mr. Corbyn, who has been involved with energy efficiency and climate change issues for 15 years, was part of a select group of individuals chosen to receive this important training. Participants took part in an intensive tutorial about issues surrounding global warming, led by Mr. Gore and a team of renowned scientists and environmental educators.
Biographical Notes - Peter Corbyn, P.Eng
Mr. Corbyn has been involved with energy efficiency and climate change issues for 15 years. He implemented the first Employee Energy Awareness Program in Ontario in 1992 for his employer at the time, Woodbridge Foam Corporation. The program resulted in annual savings of about $150,000 for the company. Mr. Corbyn held the position of Environment Director with the Canadian Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association from 1996 to 2000. During this time he sat on the National Industry Issue Table for Climate Change, a team that analyzed the impact of meeting the Kyoto target for greenhouse gas emissions reductions on the Canadian industrial sector. He wrote a book the Guide to Implementing an Energy Reduction Management System Based on ISO 14001 for the Canadian manufacturing sector. He has presented at over 40 conferences since 1993 regarding environment and energy related issues. Mr. Corbyn is an instructor at NBCC Saint John and has also launched www.earthinstitute.ca to help Canadian home owners, small business owners and large organizations reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. He graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Brunswick in 1987 and lives with his family in Fredericton, New Brunswick.
