SUBJECT: SWGC: Unplugged for Cancer to raise money for Canadian Cancer Society

A Grenfell College employee wants to help make cancer history.
Steve Walsh, web administrator at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College, is organizing the second annual Unplugged for Cancer event at the Backlot, Grenfell’s student pub.
The event, to be held Friday, March 10, beginning at 7:30 p.m., will feature Corner Brook and student musicians in an acoustic format.
“Last year, two friends and I decided to organize an event at The Backlot,” said Mr. Walsh. “We all knew of someone who had or has cancer, so we decided to raise money for cancer research and awareness.”
The musicians at this year’s event will include Grenfell students Andrew O’Brien, Colin Furlong, Kevin Hamilton and Mark Hoyles, as well as local musicians Sherman Downey, Andrew Ross and local band 12 Mile House.
“I’m sure that I speak for all musicians involved when I say that we’re only too happy to donate our time for this event. All we want is for everyone to come and donate to this worthy cause,” said Kevin Hamilton, a general science student at Grenfell.
All proceeds will be donated to The Canadian Cancer Society. For more information about this event or to make a charitable donation to the Cancer Society contact Mr. Walsh at swwalsh@swgc.mun.ca. He will be accepting donations until March 10.
