SUBJECT: Memorial University president to attend Combined Councils of Labrador conference

Dr. Axel Meisen, president and vice chancellor of Memorial University, will be in L’Anse au Clair, Labrador tomorrow, Friday, Jan. 27, to make a presentation during the 34th annual general conference of the Combined Councils of Labrador.
Dr. Meisen will be the guest speaker during Friday’s luncheon at the Northern Light Inn in L’Anse au Clair from 12 noon to 1 p.m.
Dr. Meisen’s trip to Labrador builds on several key visits he has made recently, including a trip to Happy Valley-Goose Bay last fall to meet with community leaders and speak with members of the media. He also visited Labrador City, Sheshatshiu, Port aux Basques, Grand Falls-Windsor, Corner Brook and Marystown last year.
Dr. Meisen will be available to speak with the media on Friday on a number of issues including Memorial University’s role in Labrador, immigration in Newfoundland and Labrador, the ongoing development of the provincial economy, and the role of universities in fostering innovation in the Atlantic economy.
