SUBJECT: Marine Institute to hold graduation today

Over 185 diplomas, certificates and advanced diplomas will be awarded during the Marine Institute of Memorial University’s annual graduation ceremonies taking place at the institute’s Ridge Road campus today, Friday, June 9, 2006, at 2 p.m.
This year’s ceremonies will feature guest speakers Tom Rideout, deputy premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, who is also the provincial fisheries and aquaculture minister and minister responsible for aboriginal affairs, Memorial president Dr. Axel Meisen, and nautical science graduate Heather Beasley.
Diplomas, advanced diplomas and certificates will be awarded in aquaculture, coastal zone management, food technology, food safety, marine diesel mechanic, offshore structural steel/plate fitter, marine engineering, marine environmental, marine engineering systems design, nautical science, and naval architecture. Graduates of the bachelor of technology, bachelor of maritime studies and the master of marine studies received their degrees at Memorial University’s convocation ceremonies on May 25.
The Marine Institute will hold a reception following the graduation ceremony.
