SUBJECT: Music, Media and Culture lecture series continues on Sept. 23

Dr. Virginia Caputo, of Carleton University, will be the next lecturer in Memorial University’s Music, Media and Culture series. Dr. Caputo’s lecture will be held on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004, and is titled We Pass It Around the World: Making Music, Childhood, and Place. The lecture begins at 7:30 p.m. in Room A-1043, located in the Arts and Administration Buildingon Memorial’s St. John’scampus.
Dr. Caputo is an ethnomusicologist and social anthropologist whose work lies at the intersection of feminism, anthropology and expressive cultures. Her publications address issues including gender and music, the politics of childhood and youth, ethnographic fieldwork, young women and technology, and third wave feminism.
The lecture is sponsored by the Canada Research Chair in Ethnomusicology with the collaboration of Memorial’s School of Music and the Department of Folklore.
