Alumna-led program shaping a new generation of ‘limitless’ women leaders
A Memorial University program open to all women undergraduate students interested in pursuing leadership roles aims to unlock their full potential.
The Limitless Leadership Program offers leadership-themed workshops, one-on-one coaching and professional networking. It launched in September 2024.
Megan Colbourne, a human biosciences student at Memorial, is one of the program's first cohort.
She says it differs from other student learning experiences.
“We may be told at some point in our lives that we excel as students or are a good leader, but rarely do we have the opportunity to learn how to develop those skills,” Colbourne said. “We receive critical feedback in school and are taught to focus on improving our weaknesses. But in the Limitless Leadership Program, we focus on identifying our strengths and figuring out what we are good at, which is refreshing.”
Kirmi Choksi, a Memorial English and communications student, says the program is helping shape a new generation of confident women.
“It offers a new set of skills and tools in your kit, validates women and helps shape and encourage further action and thought in whatever professional field they may be pursuing.”
Alumna funding the program
Memorial University alumna Peg Hunter, who has worked in leadership roles for iconic brands such as Kraft and Canadian Tire, brought Limitless Leadership to life thanks to her generous start-up funding.
Hunter also led Home Depot’s digital transformation to become one of the country’s leading marketers and retailers.
“The benefit of female leadership is well-documented, but the numbers at senior levels remain stubbornly sub-par,” she said. “Helping our future leaders get a head start in leadership skills development and an understanding of the environment in which they will lead will help to change that. And I’m blown away by the calibre of this first cohort. The future is bright!”
Anyone interested in contributing to the program as an angel investor, panel speaker or providing networking support can reach out to Sarah Bartlett, program manager, Limitless Leadership, at 709-864-3142 or limitlessleadership@mun.ca.
