Bedding and towels are included. Linen exchange carts are available for fresh linens during your stay. Extra pillows or blankets can be requested.

Single-occupancy rooms with automatic doors, and fully accessible showers and toilets are available in Macpherson College.

Staff are available at the front desk (Macpherson College - Hub) from mid-May to mid-August for assistance at any time.

Guests can purchase laundry cards at the front desk for $8 or $20. Wash and dry cycles cost $2 each. Detergent is not provided.

Common lounges with TVs are located on the first floor of Rothermere, Bowater, Barnes, Burke, Curtis, Blackall, and Doyle. In Squires, the TV room is located on the third floor, while in Hatcher, it is on the fourth floor. Macpherson College (Shiwak and Cluett) offers a TV in the common lounge on every floor.

Paton College has a small shared kitchenette in each building, while Macpherson College offers kitchenette areas on each floor. These include basic appliances but no cookware or cutlery.

Secure access ensures only guests can enter their assigned buildings.

Complimentary and secure short-term storage is available.

Secure storage is provided for personal bikes. Bike rentals are available starting at $10 for four hours. Helmets and locks are included.

Snack and beverage vending machines are located in each building.
In Paton College, the vending machines are located on the second floor of Hatcher, Rothermere and Bowater, and the first floor of Squires, Burke, Curtis, Blackall, Barnes, and Doyle. In Macpherson College (Shiwak and Cluett), the vending machines are in the first-floor laundry room, which can be accessed by pressing button 1 in the main elevator.

Vicki, a smart vending machine located on the third floor of Hatcher House, offers a variety of pre-made sandwiches, salads, and other snacks.

A popular spot for birdwatching, Burton’s Pond is a haven for birders and wildlife enthusiasts. This pond attracts various species of wild ducks, including Mallards, American Black Ducks, Northern Pintails, and both Eurasian and American Wigeons. In winter months you may find Tufted Ducks along with Greater and Lesser Scaup. The area is also home to several species of gulls, such as Glaucous, Iceland, Herring, and Great Black-backed Gulls. You may also spot large German Brown Trout, as the pond is linked to the Rennie’s River system. Burton’s Pond offers a peaceful way to get close to nature, making it an ideal spot for a quick walk or stretch between conference sessions.

The Bookstore offers a wide range of exclusive merchandise, including Memorial University sweatshirts, mugs, and other mementos to remind you of your visit. In 2025, we’re celebrating our 100th Anniversary, so don’t miss out on limited-edition anniversary apparel that will only be available for a short time. You can also find unique Blue Whale merchandise to commemorate Altum’s impressive presence on campus. If you don't have time to visit the Bookstore in the University Centre, our residence front desk also features a small pop-up with select Bookstore items, so you can grab a souvenir before you leave.

Overnight parking for one vehicle is included in most room rates.

Smoking, including vaping and e-cigarettes, is prohibited across campus.

There are a variety of food options when staying on campus. These options include the following.

Bitters Graduate Student Pub & Restaurant: Offers pub food and beverages.

University Centre Food Court: Various fast-food options on the third floor.

Garden Café: Located at Memorial's Botanical Garden, serving soups, sandwiches, and weekend breakfast.

Visit Altum, the magnificent blue whale skeleton displayed in the atrium of the Core Science Facility. This stunning exhibit is free to explore and makes for an unforgettable photo opportunity to commemorate your visit to Memorial University.

The Works is located at the west end of campus and includes the Aquarena, Field House, and other recreation facilities. This expansive complex offers a variety of fitness, aquatic, and recreational programs for both the general public and the university community. Highlights include sports courts, basketball, volleyball, fitness classes, an indoor track, and The Workout—a fully equipped space with cardio machines, strength training equipment, and free weights. Enjoy recreational and lane swimming at The Works. Although the Aquarena Pool is temporarily closed due to the 2025 Canada Games, lane swimming is still available at the MUN Pool located in the Field House. For up-to-date schedules and drop-in rates, visit The Works website.

Access nearby trails, including Long Pond and Mount Scio, which connect to the Grand Concourse system. The Long Pond trail is great for a morning walk or jog and also connects to Mount Scio trail which takes visitors to the Botanical Garden.

Memorial University is located within the stunning Pippy Park, a 14-square kilometre urban park offering breathtaking views of the city and the Atlantic Ocean. The park provides year-round recreational opportunities, including hiking, jogging, and scenic walks. Don’t miss Admiral’s Green, a beautiful golf course located within the park, perfect for a round of golf surrounded by nature.

The Queen Elizabeth II Library is one of Canada’s best university libraries and the largest east of Montreal. Located only a 5-minute walk from accommodations, it offers printing services, computer access, and a wealth of resources. While there, enjoy a coffee or snack at the on-site Jumping Bean Café, perfect for relaxing or studying.

The First Space Art Gallery in The Commons of the Queen Elizabeth II Library features the work of graduates in the Fine Arts program at Memorial's Grenfell Campus. During the summer, it features an exhibition of work from current and retired faculty and staff.

Located next to the residences, the John C. Perlin Arts and Culture Centre is a hub for creativity and entertainment. It features a 1000-seat proscenium main theatre, a 75-seat black box theatre, reference libraries, art galleries, and is home to the A.C. Hunter Public Library. Whether you're catching a show or exploring the galleries, it's a must-visit during your stay.
