Welcome Dr. Hai Van Nguyen
Dr. Hai Van Nguyen joined the School of Pharmacy as an Assistant Professor on Sept. 1, 2016.
Dr. Nguyen conducts empirical research into health-related behaviours, health outcomes, economic evaluation and policy evaluation. He has special interests in tobacco control, physical activity, pharmaceutical pricing, and genomic medicine. His works have been published in leading health economics, public health and medical journals such as Journal of Health Economics, Tobacco Control, and Ophthalmology. His publications have been picked up by media outlets such as CBC, Globe and Mail and Daily Mail.
Apart from his academic research, Dr. Nguyen actively engages in policy consultancy, being an author of a number of technical policy reports for the Heart and Stroke Foundation Canada, Health Canada, the Canadian Institute for Health Research, and Singapore’s National Medical Research Council.
Prior to joining Memorial University of Newfoundland, Dr. Nguyen was an Assistant Professor in the Health Services and Systems Research Program at the Duke NUS Medical School in Singapore and a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Toronto. He is a recipient of the Population Health Improvement Research Network (PHIRN)’s Emerging Researcher Award and theCIHR Strategic Training Program in Public Health Policy Fellowship. He has a Ph.D. in Economics from Concordia University with a specialization in health economics.
