Nursing professor helps create provincial Dementia Action Plan
Creation of the Province's new three-year Dementia Care Action Plan, launched earlier this spring, is really a team effort! It involved input from and collaboration with a range of community experts, including our own Dr. Karen Parsons, professor and interim associate dean (graduate programs).

University updating COVID-19 protocols
As the province begins to loosen COVID-19 regulations, Memorial is also making changes to COVID-19 protocols. A detailed table is available outlining updates to COVID-19 guidance for the university as of Feb. 28 and March 14 respectively.

New Nursing sites
NEW: You can now go ahead and apply for admission to the three new nursing recently announced for Gander, Grand Falls - Windsor, Happy Valley - Goose Bay. When applying please rank your top three locations. A reminder too that applications will close on Jan. 20, 2022 with all supporting documents required by Feb. 3, 2022. We have developed a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) based on questions we've received. If you need further information please email nursingadmissions@mun.ca

Mandatory mask and vaccination requirements
Memorial University is requring COVID-19 vaccines for all students, faculty and staff, and as of Aug. 23, masks will be required on all Memorial campuses in all indoor spaces.

Feb. 9 update for St. John's campuses
Based on the information released today by the provincial chief medical officer of health, Memorial University is supporting the province’s “circuit breaker” to help slow the spread of COVID-19 in the St. John’s region.
Memorial is transitioning to a fully remote teaching, learning and work environment at the St. John’s, Signal Hill and Marine Institute campuses.
This change is in effect from Feb. 10-23. The university will continue to monitor the situation and will communicate any changes to this plan in advance.

Helping hand: Extra research funding to assist vulnerable members of university community
Memorial is allocating additional funding to one of its internal grant programs to support students and highly-qualified research personnel affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Bridge Fund is a need-based program administered by the vice-president (research) portfolio. The program is intended to assist researchers who have encountered an unexpected funding gap and require funds to retain key personnel and has a maximum allocation of $10,000.

Dr. Donna Moralejo arrived home from a month in Antarctica just as the COVID-19 virus was putting countries around the world into lock down.
Student emergency funds
Many students are facing a range of stressful disruptions in their lives as a result of the worldwide health pandemic. Cancellation of all in-person classes, a full move to remote learning and having to quickly vacate residences – combined with isolation measures, job loss and travel bans – have created particular hardships for students who lack other supports.

Spring semester registration, waived regulations and more information for students
Update on COVID-19 response - March 16
This important update includes information for students, faculty and staff. Of particular note: all students who reside on the island of Newfoundland are required to vacate student residences by end of day, Friday, March 20. Childcare Centre is closed immediately until further notice. Memorial is encouraging remote work with the understanding that university priorities are the health and safety of students, faculty and staff; maintaining the academic integrity of the semester; and critical university operations. To allow for social distancing and to help employees manage the current demands, employees are asked to work with their supervisor to facilitate remote work arrangements where operationally feasible. Unless you currently have arrangements with your supervisor, report to work as scheduled.

When Maysie Parsons of Harbour Grace graduated from the General Hospital School of Nursing in St. John's in 1914, young men from her hometown were already leaving for Europe to fight in the First World War.
