Nursing professor helps create provincial Dementia Action Plan
Creation of the Province's new three-year Dementia Care Action Plan, launched earlier this spring, is really a team effort! It involved input from and collaboration with a range of community experts, including our own Dr. Karen Parsons, professor and interim associate dean (graduate programs).
Dr. Parsons and her team had already carried out a research project aimed at improving awareness of and access to supportive community services for people living with dementia, and their caregivers. That work caught the attention of the Department of Health and Community Services, and she was invited to sit on the Dementia Action Council that advised government on development of its plan. https://www.gov.nl.ca/releases/2023/health/0330n05/
The Dementia Care Action Plan has 36 actions to improve care for individuals with dementia and their families over the next 3 years.
