Nursing Society receives kudos at volunteer day ceremony
Kudos to the School of Nursing's Nursing Society for being awesome, and for earning a nomination for Memorial University’s 2013 volunteer society of the year award.
Nursing Society President Bronwyn DeZeeuw received congratulations and a certificate of nomination from Dr. Sandra LeFort, acting deputy provost (students) and associate vice-president (academic) undergraduate Studies, and Lisa Murphy, executive director of External Affairs, MUNSU, at Memorial's 27th annual Volunteer Day event held recently.
Members of the nursing society volunteer countless hours organizing orientation sessions for new students, sitting on several undergraduate committees, and helping out with special events like the annual crest and graduation ceremonies.
They run and plan social events such as Nursing Spirit Week, National Nursing Students’ week, and various other events throughout the year. And recently the nursing society received the Atlantic Regional Achievement Award during the annual Canadian Nursing Students’ annual conference.
Along with raising spirits, the society has also raised over $25,000 for local, national and international charities.
“This group of students emulates the finest qualities of a volunteer group,” said Dr. Judith McFetridge-Durdle, dean of Memorial’s School of Nursing. “They consistently work together to address student issues, and promote interest and spirit at the school.”
