SUBJECT: Research partnership with Janssen Inc. to focus on complex diseases in the province

Memorial University’s Faculty of Medicine and Janssen Inc. will announce the Janssen and Newfoundland and Labrador Health Innovation Partnership (JANL-HIP) on Wednesday, Oct. 25.
JANL-HIP, a partnership that will translate research into management strategies for complex diseases, is a collaboration that includes representation from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, Eastern Health and the Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health Information.
Announcement participants include Dr. John Haggie, minister, Health and Community Services; Chris Halyk, president, Janssen Inc. Canada; Dr. Margaret Steele, dean, Faculty of Medicine; and Dr. Proton Rahman, associate dean, clinical research, and professor of medicine (rheumatology), Faculty of Medicine.
Members of the media are welcome to attend and will have an opportunity to hear from a psoriatic arthritis patient who, through personalized disease management, has reported significant improvement in his quality of life.
The event will take place at 10 a.m. in the Craig L. Dobbin Genetics Research Centre, on the fifth floor in room 5M101 in the Medical Education Building, St. John’s campus.
