SUBJECT: Victor Young to be decorated with the Order of the Rising Sun

The ambassador of Japan to Canada, H.E. Kenjiro Monji, will preside over the ceremony of the conferment of the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon, on Victor Young, honorary consul general of Japan in St. John’s.
The decoration will be awarded during a ceremony on Memorial University’s St. John’s campus in the presence of Hideaki Kuramitsu, consul general of Japan in Montreal, Que., and Dr. Gary Kachanoski, president and vice-chancellor, Memorial University.
The Order of the Rising Sun, established in 1875, is Japan’s oldest awards system. The different classes of decoration are awarded to individuals, both Japanese nationals and non-nationals, in recognition of their distinguished accomplishments.
Mr. Young has been honorary consul general of Japan since 2001, and has contributed to promoting exchanges and friendly relations between Japan and Canada.
