News Release

REF NO.: 220

SUBJECT: PSA: Body Works exhibit open to the public this weekend

DATE: May 26, 2016

Once again, the dead will teach the living at Memorial University.

The Faculty of Medicine is hosting its Body Works exhibit on Saturday, May 28, from 1-5 p.m. in the atrium of the Medical Education Centre, adjacent to the Health Sciences Centre on the east side of Clinch Crescent.

On display will be a magnificent collection of anatomical specimens prepared by Dr. Shakti Chandra, a professor of anatomy at the Faculty of Medicine.

This is an opportunity to view real bones and organs that have been plastinated. It will be possible to see an artificial joint, healthy lungs, a smoker’s lungs, a heart with a coronary bypass, a cirrhotic liver and a normal liver. Whole bodies will also be on display.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend this free event, meet Dr. Chandra, discover the world of plastination and learn about their own body—inside and out.

Parking will be available in lot 9L, next to the Medical Education Centre and in lot 27, the parking garage across the road that is accessible from Arctic Avenue.
