News Release

REF NO.: 13

SUBJECT: Memorial University to hold Go Abroad Fair

DATE: September 29, 2015

A Go Abroad Fair will take place from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on the third floor of the University Centre on Memorial’s St. John’s campus on Wednesday, Sept. 30. Admission is free.

The Go Abroad Fair features information about on-campus international opportunities and ways to go global without leaving campus. The fair is an opportunity for students to learn from other students, faculty and professional service providers about how to study, work and volunteer abroad.

“This fair is for students who want to go abroad and for those who don’t even know it yet,” said Natalie Spracklin, Memorial’s Go Abroad Office co-ordinator. “Any questions students might have about how to study, work or volunteer abroad, they can ask it at the Go Abroad Fair.”

This year, the fair features Newfoundland native Jorja Hinks. At only 10 years old, Jorja began volunteering in Africa two years ago and has since travelled to the continent three times to help orphans in a Ugandan village.

By sharing her insights and lessons learned abroad, Jorja hopes to inspire and encourage Memorial University students to volunteer abroad and to become better global citizens. Students and media are invited to meet Jorja Hinks at the Go Abroad Fair this week.

“The fair will hopefully encourage students to push themselves out of their comfort zone, to take full advantage of the many international opportunities available to them as Memorial students, and to embark on a fun adventure that will also provide them with professional development and some very marketable skills,” said Ms. Spracklin.
