SUBJECT: PSA: Fishing Vessel Stability Simulator to be launched at Marine Institute

The Canadian Council of Professional Fish Harvesters and the Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University of Newfoundland will hold a news conference on Friday, Nov. 30, at 12:30 p.m. to officially to introduce the Fishing Vessel Stability Simulator. 
The event will take place in the Alcock room, second floor of the St. John’s Convention Centre at 50 New Gower St.
Derrick Dalley, minister, Fisheries and Aquaculture, and a representative from the Department of Innovation, Business and Rural Development, will join Earle McCurdy, president, Canadian Council of Professional Fish Harvesters, John Sutcliffe, executive director, Canadian Council of Professional Fish Harvesters, and Glenn Blackwood, vice-president, Memorial University (Marine Institute) to introduce and demonstrate this new learning tool for Canadian fish harvesters.
The development, production and distribution of the Fishing Vessel Stability Simulator was funded by the National Search and Rescue Secretariat – New Initiatives Fund (SAR-NIF) (recommended by Transport Canada), the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, the Department of Innovation, Business and Rural Development, the Research & Development Corporation, the Canadian Centre for Fisheries Innovation and the Professional Fish Harvesters Certification Board in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The simulator was developed by the Canadian Council of Professional Fish Harvesters, the Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University of Newfoundland and Memorial University’s Distance Education, Learning and Teaching Support.
