SUBJECT: Speaking of Engineering welcomes Jason Simpson of Vale

The Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Memorial University and the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL) will host Speaking of Engineering on Thursday, June 14.
The popular lecture series begins at 7 p.m. in the Bruneau Lecture Theatre (EN-2006) in the S.J. Carew Building, on the St. Johns campus of Memorial University.
Members of the media and the general public are encouraged to attend.
The guest speaker is Jason Simpson, general manager of Labrador operations for Vale. Mr. Simpsons presentation will focus on Vales mining operations in Labrador.
Mr. Simpson holds dual degrees in mining engineering and physics from Dalhousie University in Halifax, N.S. He joined the mining industry in 1995 and has since worked internationally as a professional engineer. He is also a graduate of the Inco Leadership Training Program.
Since becoming a professional engineer, Mr. Simpson has worked in ventilation, ground control, geology and surveying. He gained a global,
multi-commodity perspective after spending four years working with McIntosh Redpath Engineering on mining studies around the world.
Mr. Simpson has spent the last nine years gaining operational and engineering experience with Vale. His areas of expertise include underground and open pit mining/milling and engineering, financial and leadership experience.
A reception will follow Mr. Simpsons lecture and free parking is available in lot 16.
