SUBJECT: Memorial University power outage update
DATE: March 3, 2012
10 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2012
The situation has returned to normal at Memorial Universitys residence complex. Students have returned to their residence homes. By 11 p.m. on Friday, March 2, primary power had been restored to all buildings in the student residence complex and the Childcare Centre at Memorial University with one exception.
Hatcher House in Paton College is being serviced by emergency power until the evening of Sunday, March 4, when primary power is expected to be restored. In order to restore primary power to Hatcher House, short-term power outages to the entire residence complex area are required.
These planned outages will occur during the following daylight hours and students will not be required to leave their residences during these times (all times approximate):
· Saturday, March 3, 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
· Sunday, March 4, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m
The problem was caused when a 40-year-old cable failed. That cable was scheduled to be replaced at the end of this semester.
University officials are continuing to monitor the situation closely and Memorials Emergency Operations Plan remains activated.
