SUBJECT: Memorial University Kicks Off havin a time: Reunion 2012
DATE: August 8, 2012
Memorial University alumni will converge on St. Johns campus, the Marine Institute and Grenfell Campus for five days of celebrations beginning today, Aug. 8. The first event of its kind in Memorials history, the five-day reunion will give alumni from all years and faculties the chance to reconnect with friends and colleagues, reminisce on their time at the university and make new memories.
I am delighted to welcome our alumni back to our campuses for Reunion 2012, said Dr. Gary Kachanoski, president and vice-chancellor of Memorial University. Their passion and commitment to Memorial is inspiring and plays a key role in the universitys continued success. Through Reunion 2012, I look forward to joining alumni and friends, faculty and staff and others in celebration of not just our past experiences, but also the exciting initiatives that lie ahead.
Over 150 volunteers, including alumni, faculty, staff and students, have been busy planning the reunion, which has been over two years in the making.
There are many exciting events happening over the five-day period, including showcase events, a speaker series, an alumni job fair, faculty, school and group celebrations, family-oriented activities and The Wicked Memorial Variety Show at Mile One Centre featuring some of Newfoundland and Labradors top musical and entertainment talent.
The ultimate goal of the reunion is to enable alumni to reconnect and stay connected with Memorial, said Gary Peddle, chair of Reunion 2012. We want to leave a legacy for future reunions and provide a channel for alumni locally and living away, to stay in touch and support their university. We look forward to celebrating some of the amazing graduates from Memorial in the coming days.
Parking will be free on St. Johns campus during the reunion, from Aug. 8 -12. Gated lots near on-campus events will open approximately one hour prior to the start of the events. Meters on campus will not be ticketed with the exception of those located on Westerland Rd.
