SUBJECT: PSA: Top Indian dance company Tanusree Shankar to perform in St. Johns

The Faculty of Arts, in partnership with the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute and the Friends of India Association, is pleased to present the Newfoundland debut of the Tanusree Shankar Dance Company. The company will perform the Indian creation ballets Uddharan and Chirantan at the St. Johns Arts & Culture Centre on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at 8 p.m.
These dance ballets draw upon Indian classical and folk styles as well as the ballet and modern tradition of western dance and are both choreographed by Tanusree Shankar, the dance companys founder. The evenings entertainment will commence with a performance by St. Johns own multicultural dance company Bollywood Jig.
The troupe is embarking on a Canadian tour to celebrate the Year of India in Canada, an initiative of the High Commission of India and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations and this performance is a key element of Newfoundland and Labradors celebration of Multiculturalism Week (March 20- 27).
Tickets are $20 ($10 for students and seniors) and can be purchased at the theatre box office or by calling 729-3900.
