REF NO.: 67

SUBJECT: Memorial’s campus enforcement members collecting toys for kids

DATE: November 16, 2010

Operation Toys for Kids will be in full effect at Memorial again this year, making it the ninth year running that members of Campus Enforcement and Patrol (CEP) will strive to make Christmas a little brighter for the province’s children.
The toy drive will kick off in the main dining hall at Paton College on Nov. 17 during the supper hour. Members of CEP will collect new, unwrapped toys from the university community and beyond to distribute to families in need across Newfoundland and Labrador.
Operation Toys for kids will run Nov. 17-Dec. 10, but CEP members will collect toys until Dec. 17. Drop boxes will be placed at the CEP offices in the Facilities Management Building and the Health Sciences Centre. There will also be a drop box in the main entrance of the Arts and Administration Building.
As well, CEP members will be on hand to accept donations during the Sea-Hawks’ men’s and women’s basketball games at the Field House on Sunday, Nov. 28, and will help K-Rock radio personalities “Stuff the Shed” with toys on Memorial’s St. John’s campus from 7-10 a.m. on Dec. 7.
CEP members are also willing to pick up any donations on campus simply by calling 864-8561 or 777-7280. If you require any more information, you can also e-mail lwells130@live.ca.
Last year, CEP donated more than $11,000 worth of toys and $1,700 in cash to the Salvation Army to help the season of giving become more memorable for everyone.
