SUBJECT: Memorial University VIP students receive gold, silver and bronze.

Student volunteers at Memorial University will receive gold, silver, and bronze awards during the Volunteer Incentive Program (V.I.P.) awards ceremony at Confederation Building on Wednesday, March 16. Since 2005,the V.I.P. program has presented over 750 awards, representing over 23,000 volunteer hours by Memorial students. This year, over 120 students will be recognized for their contributions.
Awards will be presented by Dave Denine, minister responsible for the volunteer and non-profit sector, and Lieutenant-Governor John Crosbie. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. with reception to follow.
The V.I.P. program, an initiative of the Student Volunteer Bureau (a partnership between the Department of Career Development and Experiential Learning and Memorial University of Newfoundland Students’ Union), began in 2003 and encourages students to track their volunteer efforts, both on and off campus. The program recognizes three successive levels of achievement, gold, silver, and bronze, each with its own set of criteria. In addition to volunteer hours, participants must take part in activities that will enhance the development of their career path, self-awareness, and leadership abilities.
