SUBJECT: Memorial celebrates Dr. Angus Bruneau’s ongoing legacy with special ceremony

DATE: April 4, 2011

Note to Editors.

Memorial University will celebrate the ongoing legacy of one of Newfoundland and Labrador’s most outstanding citizens in the field of engineering and research-based innovation on Wednesday, April 6.
The special ceremony will take place on Memorial’s St. John’s campus at 10 a.m. in the central atrium of the Inco Innovation Centre. Limited parking is available in Lots 17 and 18, as well as some metered parking spaces adjacent to Lot 17.
Memorial University’s President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Gary Kachanoski and numerous special guests will join Dr. Bruneau and his family in recognition of Dr. Bruneau’s many contributions to Memorial.
Dr. Angus Bruneau, the founding dean of Memorial’s Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, has a close and lasting relationship with Memorial; his tenure at the faculty saw the development of a co-operative education program – one of only two such programs offered by Canadian universities at the time.
Dr. Bruneau is also a tireless volunteer in several capacities at Memorial as well as a longtime donor. In 2007, the university was the recipient of a generous $1 million donation from Dr. Bruneau and his wife Jean Bruneau. In 2006 the main lecture hall in the S.J. Carew Building was renamed the Angus Bruneau Engineering Lecture Theatre in his honour.
Media agencies are invited to send representatives.
