SUBJECT: Dialogues in Bee Time: public presentation by distinguished Canadian educator and biologist Dr. Mark Winston

Media representatives are invited to attend a public presentation by distinguished Canadian educator and biologist Dr. Mark Winston on Monday, March 21.
The presentation, titled Dialogues in Bee Time: Experiencing Your Education, explores what bees, dialogue and university success have in common. Former bee biologist Mark Winston will explore what happens when you combine dialogue, experiential learning and community engagement to create a unique and powerful educational experience that transforms student learning.
Dr. Winston is a distinguished Canadian educator who has utilized dialogue in classrooms, corporations, non-profit organizations, government, and community settings to develop leadership and communication skills, conduct strategic planning, inspire organizational change, and thoughtfully engage public audiences with controversial issues. He is also an entomologist with an extensive career researching, teaching, writing and commenting on bees and agriculture, environmental issues, and science policy. His work has appeared in numerous books, commentary columns for the Vancouver Sun, New York Times, The Sciences, Orion magazine, and frequently on CBC radio and television and National Public Radio. He currently is academic director of Simon Fraser University’s Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue, and a professor of biological sciences.
The presentation is sponsored by the MetaKettle Project at Memorial University, a legacy project from the 2004-2009 NSERC/Petro-Canada Chair for Women in Science and Engineering (Atlantic Region).
The event will take place at 7 p.m., in the School of Music’s Petro Canada Hall, St. John’s Campus, Memorial University.
