SUBJECT: Memorial president to sign Bottled Water Free Declaration at Orientation 2009

On Monday, Sept. 7, 2009, Dr. Christopher Loomis, Memorial University’s president, pro tempore, will sign a pledge relating to bottled water. The signing will take place on the first day of Orientation 2009, and the pledge is aimed at eliminating the distribution of bottled water at all university-sponsored events.
The signing ceremony begins at 1:45 p.m. in the the Field House, located on Memorial’s St. John’s campus. The signing also signifies Memorial’s commitment to develop a water access plan to upgrade current infrastructure so as to increase access to public drinking water and ensure all new campus buildings include adequate access to public drinking fountains.
Media agencies are invited to send representatives.
